I just watched Super Soul Sunday featuring Howard Schultz, former Starbucks CEO. Like him, I want to be a great leader. I don’t want to sacrifice my values for profit. I want to be authentic and transparent. I want to lead with power and purpose. I want to change the world. When I hear about people who are focused primarily on sustainability and progress, integrity, and making sure everyone receives the support they need, I get super excited! We deal with money in one form or another every day. What is money anyhow? I can almost hear people rallying together and throwing ideas around: Money is a tool. Money is energy. Money is freedom. Money is a pain in the ass. Money is the root of all evil. Money is whatever we believe it is. It takes on the meanings we attach to it. Throughout my life, money has been power, control, joy and generosity. It has been an effing pain in the ass. Money has stressed me out and it has been the only thing that has validated me. Money has clouded my judgment and stifled my creative flow. It has also opened me to think creatively and unleashed my passion. Money has motivated me to act. It has been a burden and a grind.
